Facebook is no longer just a way of communicating with friends and family, it’s becoming a way of life! The average person checks Facebook at least 5 times a day. How many times do you check your Facebook… 5 times? More than 5? My point exactly!
Although there are well over 1 billion people on Facebook, there are still billions who aren’t. This is likely to change; in fact, it’s changing as we speak! More and more people are signing up to Facebook to become part of the growing revelation.
So to aid the newbies, we’ve put together a blog that will guide and advise the ones who are eager to sign-up! Through this guide, we will provide Tips, Statistics, Facts, advice and most importantly, beneficial information.
Facebook was created by an average student who goes by the name of ‘Mark Zuckerberg’. Mark was just 20 years old when he launched Facebook. Mark created Facebook in the early months of 2004; making the best-known social media site 11 YEARS OLD! Mark is now one of the richest men on the face of earth. His net-worth is said to be around $34,800,000,000! If that’s not inspiring enough for you, I’m not sure what is.
When is the Best Time to Post?
This subject is widely debated across the Facebook community. It’s highly unlikely that 2 people will agree on a set day & time that is best.
From our previous experimentations and experiences, we have found that Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday are the best days.
Regardless of the industry, the topic and audience, Friday’s are ALWAYS the best days to post content towards your audience. In the world of work, Friday’s tend to be classed as the easy and laid back day of the week; meaning many employee’s sneak on to Facebook to check the latest gossip. Although the sneaky theory doesn’t apply to everyone, its fact, midday on a Friday is the best time to post! Try posting on Friday between the hours of 12:00 – 14:00 GMT.
Going back to the first point, the best times for you to post are likely to vary. You can experiment by using Facebook ‘Insights’. This will give you all of the information you need to track the appropriate engagement.
How to Post?
Posting to Facebook is as straight forward as you make it. It’s a simple process that can easily be interpreted to be a challenge. It has often taken people a while to understand the process of posting a ‘status’.
Facebook allows you to post content in a variety of ways, ranging from links to videos.
So, you can keep it simple by writing a plain status which has nothing but text. That’s simple, just type what you wish and click ‘publish’.
If you’re a little more enthusiastic, you can include a link. This follows a similar pattern. Type your text, with the link included within it. Facebook will then crawl the landing page and it will take the necessary data to craft together a status. While crawling, it will read the Meta title, the Meta description and any images that are located on the landing page.
Photos & Video’s
Now, if you’re very photogenic, vain or just someone who likes to take a selfie or two, you’re probably going to need to know how to upload images to Facebook.
Again, this is simply thanks to Facebook’s wonderful usability. In the status bar there’s an ‘Add Photo’s/Video’ option. By selecting this option you will be able to attach any photos or videos you wish to include. Next to the ‘Add Photos / Images’ option there’s a ‘Create Photo Album’ option & of course, this is what you will need to click if you want to upload an album of images.
Facebook also allows you to tag people in your status. Tagging people will also post the statuses directly to their ‘wall’. People often do this if they’re with someone at that given time. When you tag someone in a status it shows up as ‘with – Name Surname’.
You can also tell your Facebook friends where you are at the time you’re posting your status. You can list your location as being anywhere you like! DON’T DO THIS IF YOU DON’T KNOW ALL OF YOUR FACEBOOK FRIENDS…!
Emotions & Feelings
Now we’re at the slightly less important feature of statuses; feelings & emotions. You are able to tell your Facebook friends how you were feeling at the time you posted your status. Here’s an example – you’re ranting about your Football teams most recent result; you could put ‘Feeling disappointed’ within the status. This feature doesn’t tend to get used very often – don’t let that put you off though!
Who’s going to see your status? That depends, on who YOU would like to see your status. It doesn’t take a genius to work out, that by default, if you post a status it’s your Facebook friends who will see it.
However, if you’re running a business page on Facebook, you may want to target a specific audience. By using Facebook Insights effectively, you will be able to research the audience you’re targeting and the audience you want to target.
You can also filter your target audience, all the way from age to gender, using Facebook ads!
Pages are the best way to promote your business, brand and company. Business pages allow you increase your company exposure, although there are over 50,000,000 pages on Facebook, meaning it could prove to be quite a challenge.
However, creating a business page is a simple process, although housands of people don’t create pages correctly. Complete optimisation to Facebook pages is crucial.
Optimisation should include:
All information details filled out.
All appropriate website links in-place.
A professional and clear cover photo.
A clear high-res company logo set as the profile picture.
Failing to complete full optimisation will undoubtedly mean underachieving on Facebook.
You can get a visual step-by-step guide on how to create a Business Page within the Infographic in this blog article. Remember, you MUST have a personal Facebook account to create a business account.
Groups are very similar to pages in the way that they operate. The best way to seek a difference is commercial and social. Groups are joined by people who share an interest in a particular subject. Groups give people with common interests a place to communicate – pages don’t.
Creating a group is practically the same as creating a page; a guide can also be found within the Infographic.
Yes, that’s right. Facebook even allows you to play games! Just when you thought you could contain your excitement…
Facebook has 100+ games that are regularly played by Facebook users. Facebook’s most popular game is ‘Candy Crush Saga’. It is played by more than 150,000,000 users! It’s a very addictive game, believe me.
Facebook ads are used by millions of companies, worldwide. It’s a great way to invest money in your business. Facebook has well over 1 billion likes; that’s a lot of potential exposure to your business. Although Facebook Ads tend to have a great return on investment (ROI), they can often become very expensive! Similar to Google’s Pay-Per-Click, it runs on a basis of the more you put in, the more you will get out.
Facebook Ads is definitely something for all business owners to consider… So take the next step!
Although Facebook is now a company, it wasn’t originally. Mark created Facebook to allow people to communicate efficiently – he claims that he never imagined that more than 15% of the world’s population would join it.
Facebook uses a separate application to allow you to message people. The app is ironically called ‘Messenger’. Messenger is a fairly new feature to Facebook and Facebook is aiming to eventually have everyone using the app.
